Current owners and siblings Janice, Ken, Bill and Shirley opened Smith
Family Farm in the late 1970's. Since then, thousands of families have
come to the farm to experience their unique, old-fashioned take on fruits
and vegetables. Open daily late April through October, select from over 50
types of tomatoes and dozens of pepper varieties (hot and sweet). Stop by
and fill your bucket with peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums and other
stone fruit. Each season select eggplant, squash, zucchini, cucumbers
and more. Don't forget the onions, garlic, potatoes, yams, fresh-cut basil,
swiss chard and other greens. Weekly updates on their Facebook page.

Byron Delta Lyons Club Student Speaker Contest was
held on Feb. 6 at Excelsior Middle School in Byron. Their
teacher, Tacy Heath is an English teacher at Heritage High
School in Brentwood, CA. She’s been coaching the con-
test for the last three years and has sent over 50 speakers
to the contest, and has taken her students to the three out
of five levels of the contest. “My students always amaze
me!” said Heath. “I have the privilege of watching them
transform every year. I see them begin the year as ner-
vous, timid, self conscious high school students who cling
to my podium like a life raft. As the year progresses, they
learn to stand confidently in front of both adults and their
peers communicating their ideas and their interests.”
