“L
a Familia” - when you
visit the New Mecca
Café, you instantly become fam-
ily. Guillermo and Theresa (Terry)
Muniz have owned and operated
this delightful establishment since
1964. They actually met while
both working there in their teens.
Terry is known as being one of the
fastest tortilla makers around town.
The New Mecca Café opened
in the early 50’s and had vari-
ous locations within a few blocks
of where they’re nestled now, on
Railroad Avenue in Pittsburg.The
friendly sta are family members
in some aspect, and it’s comforting
to know many generations con-
tinue the legacy of working there.
I noticed how,when sta members
ended their shifts, they’d give hugs
and kisses to the owners.
It’s all about family.
Remembering fondly 20-plus
years of enjoying many a meal
there, I sat in what is now the
original section of the restaurant.
After their remodeling two years
ago, they went from seating 54 to
134. I adore the old section with
