Costa County Science Fair (CCCSEF)
By Liz Ritchie
Lizritchie@me.com
L
ast year, seventh grade An-
tioch student Lauren Rojas
made national news with her Hello
Kitty weather balloon science proj-
ect. With any luck, Contra Costa
County students will be in the news
again with their science and engi-
neering talents on display at the an-
nual Contra Costa County Science
and Engineering Fair. The largest
science fair in the county will be
held at Los Medanos College at
2700 E. Leland Road in Pittsburg
on March 21, 22, and 23. Approxi-
mately 400 students from both pub-
lic and private middle schools and
high schools around the county
will participate. On March 22, over
130 science professional volunteers
from local high-tech companies
will serve as judges to review the
projects and interview students.
On Saturday morning, the fair
will be open to the public free of
charge to view all the projects from
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. For more in-
formation about the Contra Costa
County Science and Engineering
Fair, please visit the fair's website at
www.cccsef.org/index.html.
The Contra Costa County Sci-
ence and Engineering Fair are both
proud and grateful to have major
support from its presenting spon-
sors: Bio-Rad Laboratories, Chev-
ron, Lawrence Livermore National
Securities, John Muir Health, Delta
Living Magazine and from its host
Los Medanos College. Funding is
still needed to cover the full budget
for the fair. Prospective sponsors are
invited to contact fair co-director
Liz Ritchie at 925-684-4995 or
lizritchie@me.com for more infor-
mation.
